Downtown St George Utah is a charming area with some fun historic buildings rich in history. I grew up here so I remember what it used to be. The area we chose for this shoot, used to be the town library and once had the college turned high school turned 6th grade center turned administration building there. It is still home to the historic Tabernacle building where concerts, speeches and events take place. As you can see, we have many stories that can be told of this area.
Just a half block away on the main road was my grandfathers Pharmacy, Dixie Drug. As a child we spent many weekends there watching the season parades, changing the decor over for each season and helping him work. He would let me deliver orders, create displays and work the register. It was one of those old time key registers. We had a carbon plastic credit card machine for those who had accounts. My favorite part was the candy and soda fountain. Every soda was made by hand with syrup and plain soda water. We had those huge tubs of ice cream and toppings galore. He made a special sour flavoring that we dared each other to taste. Every old fashioned candy you can think of was behind those glass sliding doors.
As a sixth grader, I would sneak off campus and have ice cream for lunch with him. As the oldest grandchild I had lots of fond memories of my grandfather. He passed away suddenly when I was 13. So this part of town brings back great memories and I love spending time in downtown St George.
