I often get asked what people should do when a family member is missing from their photo experience. Will I photoshop them in? Should they bring a picture frame with their photo?
I am a storyteller. I am telling the story of today. When people can’t make it for whatever reason, I do not photoshop people in who were not there. It never looks right. The angle, the lighting, the distance, all of it creates a disconnect and you can usually tell. Plus it’s not a real representation of today. If your son is on a mission, that’s ok. Your daughter is away at residency school, that’s ok. This was the year he/she was gone. It’s your history. It’s your story. And I want it to be accurate.
But I do encourage a memento to represent them. A framed photo, a corrugated cutout, a subtle item…any of those are great ways to include them tastefully. If you aren’t sure, just ask and I will certainly help you.
This darling family brought “Jake” as a cutout to remember his time away.
